Lepidext Inc. has developed InsterusHz, a nature-smart biopesticide based on a natural pathogenic virus of Helicoverpa zea (corn earworm, CEW). This sexually transmitted virus sterilizes adult CEW moths providing an innovative, non-toxic solution for lepidopteran pest control. Unlike traditional insecticides that kill larvae through chemical toxicity, InsterusHz works by biologically sterilizing adult moths, reducing egg-laying and suppressing the next generation of pests. Field studies have demonstrated that a single infected moth can transmit the virus to 8–10 feral moths, confirming the product’s high transmission efficiency and low persistence in the environment.
